Emily
Emily Ellingson Head Coach

Hello Sea Lion swimmers and families! To say I’m excited about the opportunity to be your head coach for the 2025 swim season is an understatement. I grew up on the pool deck and in the water, making life long friends and memories I still cherish today. Happy to say, I even met my husband through swimming; we were 10, I was faster, the rest is history.

Many of you probably know me as Harlan and Georgia’s mom or the crazy lady during home meets, running from the clubhouse to the pool deck, trying to find a scratch card or rationale for a DQ slip. My love for the sport of swimming goes back to before my kids joined the Kingsbrooke Sea Lions. I grew up in Fairfax County and started swimming on my neighborhood pool’s summer swim team when I was eight. A couple of my friends were doing it so, why not?! I still remember my first race; standing at the deep end of the pool, thinking of how far away the other end of the pool looked. I took my mark, the cap gun went off (dating myself, here) and I jumped in. I don’t remember much else except that I got a fancy ribbon when I finished.

I eventually started swimming year round in developmental programs and then on team in middle school, and after conversations with the University of Kentucky and University of Chicago, I decided to swim at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. Sadly, I had to make the difficult decision to hang up my goggles half way through my freshman year due to chronic shoulder injuries and health concerns, but soon realized my love and passion for the sport could still thrive by teaching and coaching.

Throughout high school, college, and my twenties I taught swimming lessons through the Red Cross, coached a year round, United States Swimming affiliated team in Waco, TX, and started a swim program for students with special needs at George Mason High School in Falls Church, VA. Eventually, I was able to convince my own kids to give it a try and two out of four have stuck with it.

I have big plans for our amazing team this summer, but my number one goal is to make sure every child grows as a swimmer and has fun doing so. Swimming is a sport where winning really isn’t everything. There are personal best times, becoming legal in a stroke, mastering your flip turns, starts, and finishes. There’s cheering on your friends and celebrating their success, just as they celebrate yours.

I can’t wait to meet those of you I don’t know and I’m excited to catch up with those I do. Looking forward to a great swim season! Fear the Roar! 🦭

Hi Sea Lions! This will be my fourth year co-leading the Pups program. I started swimming with Kingsbrooke when I was a four-year-old pup myself, and continued swimming for the team every summer until I graduated from high school in 2023. I just finished my sophomore year at JMU, where I’m an honors student majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Pre-Athletic training. I’m excited to be back in the water with the Pups and look forward to seeing everyone!

Olivia
Olivia Jose Co-Lead Pups Coach

Hi Sea Lions! Going on my fourth year co-leading the Pups program, I have enjoyed watching both my swimmers and coaches grow. I swam for Kingsbrooke for 9 years, NCAP for 4 years, and Patriot High School for 4 years. I started volunteering for Pups at age 12 and spent a summer teaching camps at SwimKids. I am now an upcoming senior at JMU (graduating 1 year early!), majoring in Integrated Science and Technology. Summer is my favorite season because of this team and I can’t wait to see all of your smiling faces on deck!
